We've Moved!

Several weeks ago we were offered a priceless gift.  A young woman who has never even visited Leahaven was touched by our ministry and offered to give us a website!

For those of you who don't know what that means, it means purchasing a domain name for us, providing an ongoing server, coming up with three website looks for us to choose from, spending many hours building the website, putting in many more hours transferring the information from this old website to the new one, working out the bugs, and teaching me to use the new website.

There's been some intensive construction going on behind the scenes!  The photo above doesn't really illustrate it very well because it's been far more than fixing up something that was already there.  Instead, it's been a process of creating something new, beginning with a vision . . .

... and turning it into reality--or at least, virtual reality!

The construction process is done now, and you're invited to tour our brand new website!  From now on, you can find us at http://leahavenfarm.com.  We have a new email, too: leahavenfarm@gmail.com  I'll keep this blog/website up for the foreseeable future until we're sure all of our old friends know where to find us, but the newest and most up-to-date information is on the new website.

New and Improved!

We're pretty excited about our new and improved website/blog--although to be strictly honest, that is not us turning cartwheels!


Leahaven has just joined the ranks of senior-friendly websites!  Out of consideration for our growing population of senior citizens (including the author of this blog!), our pages now feature a new, larger font.  (A few features, such as the introductory paragraphs on the blog header, do not offer a choice of type sizes and are woefully difficult to see in our opinion.)  


We now also offer links from one page to another within the blog and hope that this will help our visitors navigate the informational pages.


The right hand side of the blog features a new survey, offering you a chance to give us helpful feedback that will make our website even better.


As always, you are welcome to comment on any post or page.  It is not necessary to sign in; you may choose to comment anonymously and either end your comment with your name--or not.

Christmas at Eddie's

We recently discovered a decades-old Christmas tradition in Henagar, Christmas at Eddie's.  Located at Eddie's Garden Center & Florist, it is just a few minutes from the farm and definitely worth a visit!  This is the sight that greets you on entering, and it just keeps going through room after room--140 themed trees' worth!  There are rooms in red and green, autumn colors, pastels, silver, gold, and every other color imaginable.

Be sure to visit the grotto (creatively made with brown paper grocery bags!) full of nativity scenes.

And don't miss the Redneck Tree!  Full of whimsical redneck ornaments, it sits in an old tire with a fan-blade star and jumper cable garland.

Other themed trees include Scouts, Elvis, babies, sports, candy, pets, angels, stars, religious and many others you could never imagine!

You can buy ornaments right off the tree, and Eddie's helpful staff will be glad to help you if you can't find something.  They hunted me down (excuse the pun) a duck to commemorate our Jemima Puddleduck who recently died.  I also got this Angel Pig in memory of our two dear piggies.

From Leahaven, follow Highway 40 into Henagar.  Go straight through the light at Highway 75, and Eddie's is on the right.  Their phone is 256/657-3841 if you want to call for hours before you go.  Remember, they are on Central time!

Introduction

Leahaven Farm is a retreat dedicated to providing you a place of rest, comfort, and enjoyment of God’s creation. Amenities include:
 A heated, air-conditioned 1200 sq. ft. house capable of sleeping 8 people:
     Master bedroom with queen-sized bed
     Bedroom with two twin beds
     Bedroom with one extra-long twin plus a pull-out trundle bed
     Couch and ottoman/cot in living room
     (If sleeping more than 8 people, extra cots or sleeping bags will be needed.)
 Great room with wood-burning fireplace, CD/record player, & lots of books.
 Dining room table seating 6-8.
 Fully equipped kitchen, including dishwasher, microwave & double oven.
 Large dining room available for extra sleeping space or group meetings. Two extra large, folding tables available.
 Two full bathrooms (tub/shower and shower).
 Laundry room with washer, dryer and solar-powered dryer (clothesline!)
 60 fenced acres available for your enjoyment, including fields, woods, pond, and lake. Feel free to go beyond the gate, anywhere within the fence.
 16’ x 24’ screened cabin with dock on 1 ½ acre lake.
 Canoe, kayaks, fishing rods and life vests available at lake.
 No land-line phone on premises, but some cell phones receive service.

The inspiration for Leahaven was to provide a retreat for full-time Christian workers who need a spiritual retreat.  It will always be available at no cost to them as long as God provides. This is our gift to you who are doing God’s work—our way of unmuzzling the ox!  :)

We are also glad to make Leahaven available for other ministry-related purposes: to host a working retreat, to house a family dropping off or visiting a student at Covenant College, to temporarily lodge missionaries doing deputation in the area, to accommodate mission conference attendees, etc. If the schedule permits, Leahaven can even be a fun place for a vacation. Leahaven is operated as a ministry at our personal expense. No fees are charged for its use. Because of the expense involved in providing and maintaining this retreat, thank offerings are gratefully received and will be used exclusively to maintain this ministry--especially ministering to hurting servants--to the glory of God.

Throughout the making of Leahaven, our purpose was to create a haven of rest for singles, couples or families. The decorations and furnishings, down to the individual books, were chosen to encourage, delight and refresh the spirit.  We want Leahaven feel like a “home away from home.”

Before our first guests came, several elders, deacons and members of St. Elmo Presbyterian Church joined in a “Prayer Hay Ride” covering the whole farm and the house in prayer that God would use Leahaven to bless all who come.  We thank God that He continues to abundantly answer those prayers, and we trust that you will feel His Spirit at work during your stay.
